In July of 1953 Harley Davidson was
rolling out Panheads while
Indian was shutting down production. Floyd Clymer put together a
deal to purchase Cycle Magazine from R.E. Petersen of Hot Rod
and Motor Trend fame. This half page article was prepared for
introducing the new owner of Cycle Magazine to readers. |

Floyd wasted no time putting
his name on the cover of Cycle Magazine. His first issue as
owner was August 1953. Clymer's first attempt at a motorcycle
magazine was his "Motorcycle Topics" which he published in
Denver, Colorado in March of 1927 to sell motorcycles from his
dealership and create enthusiasm for races he also promoted. Motorcycle
Topics was a small dimension publication that Floyd referred to
as a "circular".
We have some examples of Motorcycle Topics content in our Bits n
Pieces section. Cover images from Cycle Magazine issues
published while Clymer owned it are listed in the Collection
section. |
